NSW Premier Bob Carr has announced a ban on jetskis in Sydney Harbour from 1st October.

The decision is little more than a political stunt, but it is a stunt that will have implications beyond the affected jet ski users.

The ban was introduced without consultation with the Waterways Authority Policy Advisory group.

It was announced by the Premier rather than the Minister, and it was ...

    Jet Boats on Sydney Harbour.

    JET SKI’s VS JET BOATS

Before I start this article I want to state that yes Jet Boats are fun and we do believe they should share the harbour along with everyone else including jet skiers.
Here is an extract from Oz Jet boating on Sydney Harbour
    Quote directly from their site

“The boats are designed and built by Oz Jet to perform the ultimate spins, an ...

One of the hardest challenges we face is trying to convince the government on how we can be responsible when we are allowed back on the Harbour.

Over the years we have been branded with such a bad name. A lot of people discriminate against us.

We understand that there are a few amongst us that do the wrong thing but this is the case with everything in todays society, from young p plate driv ...

When, Why, and Who? Banned Jet Skis From Sydney Harbour NSW Premier Bob Carr has banned the personal watercrafts commonly known as a Jet Skis and has prohibited them from operating on Sydney Harbour, Middle Harbour and the Parramatta and Lane Cove rivers since October 1, 2001.

Thousands of personal watercraft operators was penalised for the actions of an irresponsible few.

Many who oppose personal watercraft have an incorrect and jaundiced view of their effect on the waterways. Modern PWCs almost all 4 stroke engines, boast energy efficient propulsion and low noise levels. Compared to other powerboats, PWCs leave an extremely low wash or wake, causing virtually no damage to shoreline, and being jet propelled they greatly reduce any impact on sediment or aquatic plant life beneath the water.

Tests have shown that today's personal watercraft is substantially quieter Today, new PWCs have vastly improved sound dampening systems and extremely low emission levels. Most are now more efficient and quieter than many other vessels, including those with stern drive and inboard engines.

They certainly make a mockery of Premier Bob Carr’s misinformed ban on all PWCs on Sydney Harbour.

For instance a new Sea Doo models for have a closed- loop cooling system , same as a modern car engine. They use antrifreeze colant instead of flushing their engine with a sea water. All other manufacturers like Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha produce a 4 stroke engines as well. Techonology moved significantly in the last few years.

It's been said that 'young cowboys' comprise the bulk of PWC owners, but that's simply untrue.

Of the more than 8000 registered personal watercraft in NSW, the vast majority are owned and used in a family environment.

Additionally, many PWC owners also own larger po ...

It has always been said that Jet Ski’s (Waverunner, Sea Doo, and Kawasaki) cause damage to the environment in many ways, causes erosion, unnecessary wash, damage to seagrass and sea life etc.

If you compare the impact a Jet Ski has on the environment compared to other water vessels, Jet Ski come out as having the least impact on the environment.

Standard boats with outboard motors have propellers protruding out of the hull and sit far below the hull of the boat deep in the water acting like a giant blender. This causes great damage to the marine life.

Jet Skis on the other hand have an intake grate that actually sucks up water from the bottom and disposes it out the back causing thrust. On the intake grate there is actually a grate to stop anything other than water from entering, protecting marine life and anatomies.
