    4WDing

Since I couldn't join u guys skiing this w-end, I went 4WDing instead. Zurg has shown u what a boy truck looks like, now see a mans truck. No boy truck can do this.

This is articulating at half of its full potential. I could release the pins on the drop shackles but I need wheel spacers 2 stop tyre rub on chassis.

Some guy from eureka 4x4 training tried to pull me out of this & nearly rolled me onto my side. I ended up getting myself out.

Thats what it's all about. Beach sand is 4 girls. Any1 with 15psi in their tyres can do beach work.

Hehehe, ski rebuild underway as we speak. Should b done in 3 or 4 wks.

RAV4??? HAHAHAHA MMMMMMM ok. Anytime.......that's like me puttin the ZXi against a bombed 4-tec hehehe

No.1 rule in sand.......TYRE PRESSURE. There's always some clown in a 2wd or over rated 4wd who underestimates that seemingly firm beach sand.

Anyhoo, we also have a GU 4.2L dsl patrol wagon, 4 the family. Cruza is 4 work & MX bikes etc. It was gd with the 3 of us .

2 vehicles I refuse to snatch out anymore.....RAV4's & exploders. Moreso exploders. The last 3 I did (& yes, I know what I'm doing............9000lb snatch & bridle strap with shackles & rated recovery points), nearly ripped the front end off. Every 1 I've done was bogged beyond the axles. I haven't bogged mine beyond self recovery (in sand) yet, & hell I've tried.

Whats wrong with too high tyre pressure in sand. Where's the fun in driving straight over the top, instead of having to dig it out as quick as possible before the waves eat it
I use to own a Vitara. Best OTS beach/sand dune machine at the time.
But still, the most important point to make. Why did you get your truck stuck in the first place?

Well, if u r drivin that close 2 the water then u r cheatin anyway, the sand is firmer there.

When u r tryin 2 straddle a rut that's nealry as wide as yor car without a spotter, then it's easy 2 slip in. I've never bogged it in sand yet, at least not 2 the point where I've needed a snatch or 1hr of shovelling . I have in mud tho. Sand gets boring coz it's no challenge, but mud.............mud is dirty, slippery, challenging fun........ except when u get home & c exactly how much washing is involved . Don't forget petrols don't go thru water (ei bigger than deep puddles), even with a snorkel, if u have a seal on ya dizzy, they often leak, not 2 mention all the other electrical jazz under the hood. SOOOOO many times I get guys with half cast 4x4s who say they can compare with mine then I mention there's more to 4WDing than beach work. Suddenly they don't wanna come out & play, (not sayin that's u mate), just makin a statement.

I go to places that would ruin any suxuki or holden or ford or bitsareshitty. U need a tuff lifted dsl 4x4 with good, big rubber a good 4x4 system. I usually tell people.........go to the outback in anythin other than a cruza, patrol, or landrover (maybe a decent hilux) & break down. U will be waiting up to 3 wks for parts 2 arrive. Y? Coz no place stocks em. Y? Coz no1 takes anythin else out there coz they aren't tough or reliable in those conditions. Or look at wot the mine sites use, or safari companies world wide. I suppose u could buy a Hummer or an OKA but if u buy 1, buy me 1 too.

    I caught a shark :-p

I've never been bogged in beach in a 4WD before either. I was usually the one pulling an old tojo, or other heavy wieghted, low powered, badly driven vehicle out of places they wee too inexperienced to go.
I did get my vehicle stuck hanging over a drop off I didn't notice. If I was going fast enough I would have driven over it safely, however I'd slowed done just prior to look at a woman in another car, and stopped JIT.
I have seen vehicles roll on the beach, and where people thought the sand was harder, or softer on one side or the other.
I've climbed declines out of snow/slush covered mine pits while tankers dragged/slid down their rear down into the pit, and been sideways in a 793B.
And through all of this I learnt/knew one thing.
I took the right tool for the Job.

Tojo's shouldn't get bogged if they have good tyres & the right pressure. Mine is only 1980kg. They're not as heavy as they look . The troopy's r a bit heavier, & even moreso if they got drawers etc in em. Sometimes more weight is good tho. It pushes u down more giving u less chance of tyre slip, many varyables of course . It's just most don't realise how much tyre type/pressure is important & by the time they r bogged & tried 2 get out, lettin the tyres down is not gonna do much. I know what ya mean but. Driver knowledge & ability plays a lge part 2. U prolly know this but mud & sand tyres have multiple ply sidewalls purposely so they can b dropped to low psi without damage (ballon effect). Mine will safely go down to 8psi if need be. Plus people look at the sand they r on when they 1st hit the beach, & don't realise that 100m further up it gets softer. U still got a 4by? Wanna go sometime? It's more fun with 2 cars.

Right tool 4 the job? Maybe, but I think it was moreso that u knew wot u were doing .

Rock crawling, now that's EXACTLY wot I'm talkin about. Grip, strength, & pure articulation .

Hey Zurg, if u r into it, or just intrigued, have a look at some of the cars on www.superiorengineering.com.au

There is a tojo on there owned by Brian, 1 of the engineers (white cruza trayback with blue roll bar). That was the ispiration for mine. I'm only half way 2 where I wanna b with mine & even when finished it won't b as serious as that 1. The idea is 2 make it capable of more than I'll ever put it thru...........& surprise coil spring fans with it .
