    Exclamation Jet Skis and Sharks

    Just a thought.

In todays newspapers, there is an article about the Margeret river surf comp being halted due to a shark sighting. With yesterdays tragic loss in Qld of a Boogie boarder to a shark, I noticed a similar quote to the following

"Jet skis will patrol the competition area to keep the situation under control and provide the surfers with a hasty escape from the water"

Why is it with the people that hate the noise of jetskis, and the hoons that occasionally give us all a bad rap, but then use those exact attributes to help them with these situations.

It seems we are the best deterrant to a shark sighting!

Jetski's have a lot to offer in that regard.
They are used to carry Doctors and medical equipment during the Red Bull air race. They can be used to marshall/support swimmers, canoeists, youngster sail boats etc. I have also assisted Kite Surfers off Pinaroo - even helped one of them find a lost board.
JSW try to get involved in this kind of 'service' where possible as it assists greatly in raising the profile of the sport/pastime.
Anyone have a water event where we can perhaps assist? Give us a call.
Pity we cannot help in the Rotto swim event!

Always thinking CM. I got it. All we need to do is convince our better halves to start training for the rotto swim and we'll be there support crew. Brilliant Jagsy the rotto ride has been organised... pencil it in,...

Don't worry Chookc, you're safe as houses, swimming to rotto, the local sharks are stupid. Every year, we put a smorgasboard of food in the water but they just let it be..........or maybe it's their strategy that fails them......maybe they're thinking "hehe, yeah we'll get the humans confident by letting em make it there then we'll get em on the way back". You'd think they'd have figured it out by now, (it's only a 1 way event).

Some 'fit' people have swum back before. Maybe the confused the sharks into thinking its there and back, and they keep waiting for the slow/tiring swimmers to start on their way back
