    Warranty and Racing

I was in at Jetpower the other day and i was shocked to be advised that if you race a ski then you avoid the warranty. Is this correct? or are they full of S#%t?

Did your advisors indicate any reference or justification? It does sound a little extreme, especially if the "racing" amounted to non-modified novice class that you and I have fun with!!
I suspect this will become a well read thread....

i was told by two different dealers (yammie & SD) that racing will void warranty. was also told any performance mods voids warranty.

now i have mods and race my ski, have had a couple of issues with ski, some went thru under warranty, some got denied. i was then told that SD will put warranty thru on modded skis, if the mods had nothing to do with the problem. if however, they have to send photos to BRP for anything, and BRP see mods, most of the time they deny claim............. but then they replaced my whole drive shaft, and knew about the kit i had installed.........

I cant see how this is possible.
As long as you dont mod the ski you should be fine, i can't see how they can justify or even mention it, how does the engine know the differnce between a 11 minute race at 60 mph max speed vs 70mph huge open runs for hours on end socialy?

Cdoo you must have the charm of the Irish.... very confusing to know what Seadoo will/can do in terms of warranty support.
If I am advised by Seadoo when I take delivery of the X that to race it will void the warranty, then there will be no more racing from me. I will feed back to this thread when I ask Dave at Seadoo Sport and Leisure.

Cdoo you are right, i have modded my ski and if my gauges or hull or anything that it doesnt affect is faulty then they have to fix it, you guys need to remeber its not the dealer its BRP warranty. Jagsy there is no way that your ski (A RACE EDITION RXP) will not be covered it was designed to race for people who still wanted a warranty ski. What you arent covered for is when i nudge you at first bouy

how would they know you've raced it??? what about wave jumping???

thats apparently not covered under warranty either, but half my problems have happened after wave jumping, including a smashed set of dash gauges, and that went thru under warranty, no worries.

you gotta race it mate. thats all part of what we all now love. the best two things to do on your jet ski are wave jumping and racing. third place i feel is tubing/boarding, then freestylin, then cruizin.

so what exactly are you going to do/ allowed to do with your new ski?????????

You can always sit on it on the trailer and imagine your racing... From memory the ski is still covered under warranty if you race it, as long as you run it in for the first 10 hrs. If you race before doing the 10hr run in it will void the warranty..

    Interesting response guys

maybe this is the second negative to having a yamaha. Slow ski and poor after sales service. My mate has the same ski and had a faulty on/off switch 2 months after purchase. They would not replace under warranty and charged him $220 to replace. That was last may. I just put mine in for a service last month and they mentioned my switch had corroded and needs replacing and i advised them that the ski is less than 12 months old. They said tuff you race and the warranty is void. The same for my hydroturf which has lifted. I think at the end of the day they are full of it. Funniest thing is they did themselves out of $50k as we were looking to upgrade to 2 new yamaha two strokers.

SO if seadoo have better service i think i will have to join the seadoo army if the service and warranty is better. I will just have to get used to floating around on the water waiting for a yamaha to tow me in!
