Thread: Junior racing in WA

Ok so I have had a couple of phone calls regarding juniors wanting to race here in WA...

At this point I am investigating the current AJSBA policy,procedures guidelines and insurance issues.... Before we tackle local issues...


What I am after is expressions of interest of juniors who may want to give racing a go in a controlled environment...

Please PM me names ages and ski type and ability....

An excellent idea to have juniors.
Chook, perhaps you could give an indication of age range, ski type, riding ability to asist members in promoting this to others

Expressions so far are 2 riders from rocko I think they are 14-16 age bracket on 750 pole ski's. and another 15 going 16 yr old who wishes to race runabout but if he has to will do poleys for the first 12 months. Again this will be some hard work getting paper work approval side sorted but worth it in the end.


The other states currently only allow stock lites 800 poles ski class... and juniors are only allowed to race with juniors of similar skill / age.

But will have to see what interest we get and what the powers that be stipulate if they allow it...

Chookc the question i have is as these guys are juniors do they need a rst, or are they exempt because its raceing only under supervision??

Yes they would need an RST and most probably another more advanced training course like the boat smart etc.. (But this may be something we will find out in due course depending on the guidlines etc..)

I would think going by current Junior activity in other states that 10-13yrs would be standup only. we may be able to push for runabouts in a limited hp catorgory at 16-17 age bracket. Please these are only my thoughts / assumptions on what I think we may be able to do.. don't hold me to em...

Ok info back so far is

1. 14-16 age group can only race standups.
2. Must have RST and will have to obtain an AJSBA special race junior permit (don't have details on what this entails yet)

3. Can only race a runabout once their RST enables them to do so..This means once they turn 16 and the 8 knot restriction doesn't apply anymore then they can race a runabout...
