hey all, i own a 03 stx 12f and am having troubles with the charging system on my ski, its done around 200 hours and i recently replaced the starter motor and battery only to find that somethings up with my charging system.
when cold the battery is 12.5ish and when running its 13.5 although this drops out around five mins after running back to 12 or lower, the voltage rectifier seems to be getting very hot, does it have a thermal overload or should i be looking for the problem elsewhere, the battery terminals are clean and tight..........????
ok, spoke to a marine electrician and i tested the output from the stator which is in AC and got about 27volts, tested the outputs from the voltage regulator and got a varying voltage, ordered another as old one is rooted, hope this helps anyone with same problem, apparently it happens a bit.
