    Sponsons 4 my ZXi...again!

    Since it looks like someone deleted all of my threads, & this 1 (plus others), had info I was still using, I'm postin it again. Sorry 2 all who replied 2 this previously (Toybreaker, Chookc, Zurg....I think that was all).

    Toybreaker, can u pls tell me again who it was that supplied u with yours (as unfinished as they were). Was it WA Plastic Fabricators? Pls post the pic u posted b4, thanks mate.

    Zurg, can u pls post the pic of the WORX sponsons u posted b4, so I can use it as a template to scale?

    Hey does this look right?

    Toybreaker, what rule book was your illustration from? Dimention X on my hull is 85mm. I'm not about to cut up my hull 2 meet a regulation .

    I worked out my sponsons should be 465mm long & 90mm high & only use the back 3 out of 4 holes used by stock sponsons.

    Don't worry aboput the X dimension make sure the sponson material is More than 6 mm thick and has no sharp edges they are all rounded...

    Y dimension is crucial and i think from memory that the sponson must be within the bond line of the ski... IE dimension Z can not be further out than the outside of the bondline

    Oh yeah that makes sense. Thanks mate. I'll check that out. I'll be using 10mm high density plastic...prob same as what Daz used. I can't imagine the spacers I come up with being thick enuf 2 make the sponsons stick out beyond the bondline. My hull sides (at least where sponsons bolt on) seem pretty straight (parallel 2 ea other) & 90deg vertical 2 a level ground....(by eye)...I haven't put a level or straight edge on em yet but I will b4 I make spacers.

    I had a look at the above & it's exactly what Daz posted from. But anyway, I'm not worried about X as I'm not redesigning my hull....Y dimension regulation will be met.

    yeah that drawing in the book looks old school,
    just had a look at GP & SLX,,way different

    GP
    hulls sides taper out
    fully down YAS OEM sponson is an integral piece {spacer and blade as one,,probably like a lot of stock stuff}
    integral spacer width is 1 & 1/4 inch
    blade part "Y" is vert and hangs nearly 1 inch down {need aftermarket ones}
    spacer is level with bottom of hull {top of "X" arrow}

    SLX
    Worx Spoonsons
    hull sides fairly vert , cut-ins
    spacer width is 1/2 inch
    blade part "Y" is vert and hangs 1 & 1/2 inch down {it cuts in }
    spacer is level with bottom of hull {top of "X" arrow}

    think the ZXI will need all allowable "Y" length,,, stuff-it go 40 mm,,you'll need it
    .
    so ya finished yet
    we racin this weekend
    .
    .
    gunna get at least 4 of the big blow-up bouys
    so at least we won't miss the main corners

    Ooooohhhhh...I wish. I haven't had time to scratch the old proverbial during business hrs this last fortnight. What I'm trying 2 say (here come the excuses ) is that I haven't had a chance 2 go down & get the things yet....(crying emoticon)..........BUT........, I will asap & when I do it will b GO, GO, GO, to get em on. Once I got em I'll work on em after hrs in the Man's domain, also known as a humble 3x3m shed..........don't laugh, it's only temporary....I hope. I stuffed 2 workbenches, 3 shelving units, an 80L compressor, stick welder, lawnmower, dirtbike, ramps, generator, garden tools, rubbish bin, creeper bed, 1 tool chest, 1 tool box etc, etc into that shed....with room 2 work (that's just the stuff that takes floor or wall space. It took 2 days 2 erginomcally organise it.............long live the inventor of baby formula tins.

    Anyway, enuf waffle. I can't wait 4 u 2 show me up Daz, but it won't b this w-end.....DOH! I promise I'll keep u posted.......when they're on, we're on.

    P.S. I thought Y was seen as guide 4 how low u were allowed to drop yor sponsons........1 could make slightly larger spacers to get the sponsons 2 sit lower whils still complying with reg's.
