    Useable reserve on Stx 1100

98 stx has a 53 litre tank including 7 litre reserve, can any one tell me the useable reserve from thier experience? I had the fuel light come on for the first time today just as I was about to to a run back to town, I cut it short rather than get caught.

We get 46L/hr fuel usage at WOT on the STX, so 7 litres is approx 8 mins of WOT.

I stick too 1/3 out, 1/3rd back, and 1/3 for justin. Although I have been getting a little more adventurous lately, and letting the fuel bars drop the 2 by time I get back.

Still, I ride about 40-45k's in that time. If can trust the fuel pickup, and carry some spare for safety, a tank will get about 60-70 k's total before the reserve.

Thanks zurg, it took 36 litres to fill it today and that was after riding a couple of kilometers with the warning light on last saturday . I rode for 3 hours today varying speeds before the fuel light came on again, had to ride about 5 kilometers back to the car, so will be interested to see how much it takes this time. That last quarter of the tank seams to go fast.

The displays drops the fuel and oil bar's on the conservative side. Eight bars for fuel, would think every 12.5% fuel gone, loose a bar, buts is more like from full tank, use 5% lose top bar, use 17.5% lose 2nd bar and so on. Same for the Oil. Quickly drops off the top bar, and spend most of the with the middle bar on. Oil light comes on when down to 3rd only, but there's usually a 1/3 of oil left.
Still, I have no probs with this if I don't get stranded without oil/fuel.

Out of interest, what were the circumstances that allowed you to do an hour at WOT ?

Haven't managed a full hour at WOT. That figure is in one of the spec docs, but pretty much matches up.

Best WOT or near WOT I've managed is Black Rock (between Alkimos, and Quinns, near Jindalee) to Burns Beach, which is 15k's, in mild choppy water. The dash was reading 70-75k's for most distance, occasionally up to 80, and couple of quick ease offs down to 40 k's. I was freaking nackered afterwards. Used 3 bars of fuel in that part of the run alone. Used 3 bars for the rest of ride from Ocean Reef to Alki and Back (~40ks round trip).

I've had the pump impeller changed since then, but not had the conditions to try a WOT run for longer than a few k's.

Ok cool, it had me wondering, I did a couple of kms at 80kph last thursday still had throttle to go and couldnt imagine doing that for long let alone an hour. It would be a rare occurance here to get water flat enough for more than a couple of k's anyway, although yesterday was one of those rare occurances days - but I has the missus on the back
