    Old school 550 question

    Hi all,
I realise most of you guys have current model skis, but I have been doing up an old JS550 as a bit of a project, and i've just fitted a 44mm SBN carb with an aftermarket manifold. I'm just wondering if anyone out there used to race these things, and if you could let me know what jet sizes and needle and seat sizes work for this engine. The 44mm SBN never came out on a 550, so the carb I got was off something else. The jets are too big. I do have the Mikuni manual, but without having a large supply of jets and needle and seat sets, it is nearly impossible to get right. I'm hoping someone has done this before and can help me out.
    Thanks in advance

I hope so. It seems this info has been forgotten over the years. 550's were once very common, surely someone still remembers how to make them fly.

After many hours of stuffing around with jets and needle sizes, the 550 hammers! I also cut a rear exhaust into it to quiet it down a bit as it was unbearably noisy after I fitted a Coffman half pipe. The rear exhaust has the added bonus of more low down power due to the extra length. I managed to get a Mikuni SBN tuning manual off the net, which helped a bit.
