It might b a bit late & I'm new to the ski scene but lookin at it from a mechanicle p.o.v., the 1500 3cyl will probably be more powerful or at least give better results when modified as well as having less moving parts, but is more likely to be thirstier than the 1200 4cyl. Of course this could be a different story again if we r comparing a 4 stroke against a 2 stroke too. 4 strokes r generally more reliable but when it comes time to rebuild, yor bank account will appreciate a 2 stroke, not to mention a probable weight diff.
Sold: ZXi 900- Coffman piped, Nitro injected, Shaved head, Ported, Oversized jets, Uni-filters, UMI ride plate, Worx scoop grate, Renthal bars, Skat Trak prop, Oversized nozzle, Sponsons
Now Owned: '98 SPX full race equipped with stock driveline & a proven winner (3rd for 2008/9 season, 3rd at stated round, plus many more podium finishes)
Go the 'Doo for that price difference. If you were comparing against the 15F, I'd say it be a 50/50 bet, and come down to ride of ski and accessories.
4-Stroke fuel economy is much better than 2 strokes, but the difference between these two wouldn't be much to argue about.
There isn't any (founded) reliability issues for either engines. The 'Doos rotax engines are diff tech to inline 4 cyl kawa, and therefore can be confusing if your not mechanically inclined, but the local dealers and sea doo owners are always willing to lend a hand, suggestions etc...
The ultimate decision however will come down to you taking them both for a ride, and you deciding what you like the best.

Best piece of advice for anyone looking to buy a new ski.
