Newby to ski's, looking to buy

    G'day all,

    I'm Chunny!

I've been a dirt biker since I was a kid and lately I'm not having fun on the dirt bike so I'm thinking of selling up and getting into jet ski's.

I live in Melbourne and the Mordialloc boat ramp is 2 streets away from my place.

A mate of mine has a Kawasaki 1200 STX-R which I rode once and loved it. He lives round the corner so there's no problem with getting out there with a riding partner.

I'm looking for a ski that can occasionally tow, take my girlfriend on the odd ride, but more importantly
a blasting machine for waves at the heads, lapping phillip Island and maybe (if I can) the odd race.

Is my mates kawa a good ride?

The only thing is my budget is capped at 7k (old saying I stand by, if you can't pay $$ for your toys, you can't afford it)

So to all on this forum, here's your challenge,

Which ski can handle my reuirements, whilst still being within my price range.

Would prefer a two stroke, not for anything but I just love the sound of a big bore two stroke on the pipe!

A Yamaha GP1300R sounds like you. Go for an '05 and on if you can find a good one and can afford it.

I heard the Yamaha's can be unreliable.

    Is this true?

ANYTHING can be unreliable if it's not looked after PROPERLY.
Some people don't even bother lifting their car bonnets to check the fluids or pump the tires when the fill up their tank.

That's quite a good '01 GPR advertised on this site that was PROPERLY looked after and was ALWAYS reliable.

What Gossie said, a GPR 05 onwards. Good all round ski, 2 stroke, good for chop and waves, not big, nimble on the water and easy to shrow around in the surf.
Plus you can pick up a descent one your budget.

Consider looking at this one 2001 GP1200R for sale WA - very neat ski. Might just be a bit more sluggish towing but wont notice much.
