    Need some advice

Hi all, I know the has probably been asked a lot but I am seeking some advice on purchasing my first jet ski. I have come across a 2000 YAMAHA WAVE RUNNER XL1200 LTD with 76 hours on it. I want to know if these skies are any good, reliable etc. I just want something that I can use for fun on the broadwater, speed etc without paying so much.

I don't know a lot about skies so I thought here would be a good place to learn a little. I understand this model Is 2 stroke but does it require a pre mix fuel or does it have oil injection? What is the top speed? How many hours can you expect from a second hand ski like this one(assuming it has been looked after)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Matt

A good ski if you get a good one, but that's the catch!!!

The crank on these are allergic to the slightest whiff of moisture. The micro spec of rust that will eventually form on it will eat-away at the crank with use, then one day, like all the others... Out pops a rod with disastrous implications.

Unless it is really cheap, and you buy marine warranty for it, personally, I would give it a miss.

Unless good, the 3 pot strikers are getting a little past the reliable side. Budget in a total re-build in the future.

A friend of mine bought one from a dealer, spent $11k on the package, 3 hrs later, it stumbled to 50kph on the water, he looked in the bay, and found piston pieces. Contacted the dealer, and no warranty covered it. Sold for $1800 with trailer. 3hrs use!!!!
