    Absolute beginner

    Hi All,

I've been in this forum for about 30mins and have already learnt more than I could imagine!!

Here's my situation - my wife and I have a 3yr old son, and live 2 mins from the boat ramp at Fig Tree Pocket (Brisbane). We were walking by the river, and saw how much fun people were having. One guy was nice enough to chat, and encouraged us to look into it (I thought it was the lifestyle for the rich and famous).

We are both about to turn forty but love the idea of taking our son out at the weekends for a ride up/down the river. We are NOT about crazy surf riding or speedsters - more about enjoying the river. I always thought we would get a small put-put boat one day, but the guy I spoke to said a jetski was the way to go.

    So, my questions.................

    - what should I be looking for in a jetski (remember - I know NOTHING at the moment)?
    - what SECOND HAND models should I be considering?
    - is approx $10,000 good to get me going?
    - what should I expect in running costs?

Hope someone has the time to help a bewildered beginner!!
    Cheers
    Paul

    G'day Paul
You would definately be in the market for a four stroke & 3 seater craft I reckon.
$10 K should get you onto a reasonable craft. Check out the FX or VX models from Yamaha, or the seadoo GTi and the Kawasaki ST 12F or 15F.
I think they are all good skis if you can find one in good condition.

Palmer is spot on with his suggestions.
You may need to go to 12 or 13 though for a good FX160 but a 140 may be in the ball park.
Would suggest stay with a naturally aspirated Seadoo.
The Kawi's as suggested above are VERY good reliable ski's too.
