    Project XPL

    Hiya All
Thought I'd post some pics of project XPL, this is the conversion that a really sad and neglected XPL 98 is undergoing to become a half decent raceboat. I still have so much to learn so thanks to Alan, Richard & Craig from Jet Sport West for the tips and guidance. Thanks also to Brian from SeadooWest. Lastly, to my credit card, sorry mate, your magnetic strip is now bald like me!

I bought the ski from over East based on a brief description and a picture - those of you who just burst into laughter, I would laugh too except I am in too much pain. I was taken and taken good - like open heart surgery facilitated through the rectum! But moving on, let's get to the pics!
The hull has been repaired and finished with a Gelcoat spray on. THis was a long and teedious job. Not easy to work on a black hull at night! The water used during sanding hides important stuff ups!
The steering assembly was the first part to be finished, mainly because it just needed a clean and relube. The colour scheme is also changing to black, white and silver.
Alan helped me out with the motor, well that's not true, he did the whole thing for me! Cheers mate!
Well, as of writing this, I have to do the last coat of spray on the hull and then I can hopefully flip it over (I have been saying that for the last 2 weeks). I am wondering if I should have done a Urethane job like Richard, but then again, I had so many dings and chips to fix.
I can't wait to get started on the motor re-install!
In the next update I will be able to provide info about pipes, pumps, carb and electronics (mainly because none of this has been finalised as yet).
    Hope you found this interesting.

    Heya Water people

Thanks for all the positive comments. Chookc, I have secured the pump and will be collecting it today (all going well). Now as to dialling in the pipes.....the combination of pipes and carbies keeps me awake at night, I will probably want to check the plugs every 10 revolutions...hehehhehe. Seriously, in the beginning they will be checked VERY frequently!
    Have a great day all!

I'm not gonna laugh at u 4 doin wot we've all considered doin b4. I did a similar thing but with success (not 2 rub it in ). U took a chance...it may have payed off. I bought thru ebay from a guy with excellent feedback & heaps of it. I sussed him out over the phone, but had 2 send a deposit 2 secure it. I flew over 2 c it b4 I handed over the bulk of the $$. I was prepared 2 do what u did, except I woulda flown over 1st & personally taken it to freight co. Just make em promise u it's worth flying over 4....& tell em u don't wanna have yor time & flight $$ wasted so if it's not, be honest. Life's a gamble. Good luck with it. I hope the effort pays off .
