    2001 gtx rough running any ideas?

    my mates got a 2001 gtx with 100hrs showing.he says the ski has developed a problem/fault and he dont know what to try next.hes changed the plugs checked the leads etc and its getting a good spark when we try a plug out.
    he can get full throttle then cum off then he will rev again and the ski goes flat and splutters.the after a little while goes in to safe mode.

    any ideas people or tips for trouble shooting?

    Mmmm....If I am not mistaken the 2001 GTX is fuel injected? If so, try to do resistance checks on the throttle position switch and look for any "open circuit" points as you slowly open the throttle. The MPEM going into safe mode is because it is getting an 'out of parameter' reading from a sensor (or maybe no signal at all) and is shutting down to protect the engine. Safe mode at least allows you to crawl back to shore.
    If you go full noise, let go, then pull 3/4 or 1/2 throttle does it still do the same thing?

    I don't have the manuals for the 2001 GTX to check if it is carby or injected, but I am going to continue to assume it is injected. Your TPS will be on the throttle body, usually mounted on the butterfly spigot. Follow the throttle cable down to the intake manifold, it will connect onto a "disc". The TPS is normally on the other side of that "disc". Here is a typical pic;

    Ahh mate, I cannot be sure that I am correct. From your brief description it just seems a good place to start. It just seems likely that you have a faulty (possibly intermittent) sensor. This could even be a loose wire. The mere fact that it works on the initial squirt and then faulters on the next is suspect. You are obviously then disconnecting the lanyard and then reconnecting it (and in so doing, resetting the MPEM) and it works fine until you repeat the process. Probably be best to get a 4 stroke guru to help you rather than me.
