Thread: newbie - performance mod options

Hi guys, firstly id like to commend you on a forum that is providing a wealth of useful knowledge. As I am new to the world of jet ski's and cant seem to keep anything standard, Id like to get some advise from you experienced guys to a few questions I have.

I recently purchased an 05 RXP with approx 70 hrs on it. From what I can see it has had OPAS removed, custom sponsons, water box modified and steel S/C washers installed.

Now I am considering upping the ante and these are the initial questions I have.
1. Does an aftermarket intake grate improve speed on smooth water. I have been told that the extra fins actually create more drag thus reducing top speed on glassy water. I probably do 30% ocean and 70% smooth water riding.
2.Will I (being a recreational rider) notice or benefit from plugging up ride plate and intake grate holes? If so what can I use to do this?
3. I am in the process of installing a custom air intake but am having trouble finding 3" rubber or silicone flex tubing. Anyone know where to get some in Aus?
4. Supercharger impellers??? Which one is recommended as there are dozens of options out there.I dont plan on going crazy with the motor so minimal mods like injectors etc to suit more boost. Also reliability is a major factor.
5. From whatI have read new prop will be mandatory with more boost. So now which prop??
6. Will exhaust mods benefit these new changes im proposing? When I say benefit, I mean will it really be worth the money invested as from what ive seen they are not really cheap.
7. Intercoolers. Should an aftermarket one be something to save up my coin for the future?
8. Finally, anything else I have forgotten please feel free to add your suggestions

Guys I know this is a lot of questions so I would really appreciate any input any of you have, and hopefullly might see some of you out on the water some time as Im lovin finally being on a jet ski.

Thanks for your responses. I think they will lead me in the right track. As for my location, I am in Wollongong Australia about an hour south of Sydney. I have heard mention of Kanaflex hose but cant seam to track any down. If you know how to get your hands on it your advice would be appreciated.

I have now cleared $18k in parts alone to give mine one hell of a bite.

You have to accept that money is going to be the thing deciding how far you go. You can always keep your eye on the ads pages, I saved $1000 on my charger as someone bought it, and failed to install it before he sold the ski.

Any changes bring about more changes. For instance, the faster you go, the more you will find that the sealant you use to fix things in place on the hull will be constantly ripped out by sheer water pressure, and it becomes a weekly chore to inspect it, and re-fix it again.

Personal experience has demonstrated the better the quality of parts you buy, the less hassle you get... go for the tried and tested parts, that way there will always be support wherever you go in the world.

I have to be honest, the Ski is just as reliable as it ever was if you make sure the work is done properly with quality parts.

18K in parts what sort of ski and how fast are you running?
