    RXP Engine failure technicality

    Hi Guys

I'm just curious if anyone was informed in writing by seadoo/BRP that we have to 'winterise' or 'fog' our skis. I have a 04 RXP and the rear piston has smashed the spark plug. People I have spoken to have told me that it is due to moisture. I lost my owners manuel and can't rember the book stating that i had to winterise it.

The direction I am going with this is that if i wasn't told or informed about it shouldn't Seadoo/BRP 'TECHNICALLY' be at fault? The rest of the engine bay is in pretty good nick compared to other younger skis I have seen. So its not like I just rode it and never cared for it.

Does anyone have the manuel handy to confrim this theory or is there anywhere I can Buy the 04 RXP manuel? Thanks for any help guys.

    Hi ,

I have seen a couple of RXP 04 -05 break valves. My brother ski has 90 hours on it, just has SC done full rebuild and now just snapped a valve in no3 pot. Trashed the head and the top of the piston.

    $ 5 K to rebuild

Fogging helps but this valve has zero surface rust and looked in good condition ( what was left of it)

See green hulk forums for many more cases of snapped valves and manuals if you need em

u r right... this happened to my motor, engine blew, got brand new engine under warranty, valued at over 10grand. but it wasnt easy i had to fight 4 the claim, direct to brp, my dealer called it water intrusion, like wen u flip ur ski and water gets in the motor, but my ski has never been flipped, so i rang around other dealers, gold coast seadoo informed me they had seen a lot of this occuring, my ski was in its 11th month of warranty though, and i still had to fight 4 it, and it can occur in las lttle as 2 weeks without starting ur ski, because i did winterize, but sumtimes my ski sat around 4 a few weeks without riding..... if u ride salt water, u must get the fogging kit, made by seadoo centre (les cookes shop) in the meantime what i did was after every ride i remove the injector/fuel rail ( 2 bolts) and disconnect 3 electrical connectors on injectors by sliding the metal clips becareful not to drop these into ur hull.. pull gently but firmly a little wiggle side to side and all 3 injectors pop out, whilst still on the fuel rail then with lanyard on hold acceloator all the way in i wrap my lanyard round it a few times to have 2 free hands, then get seadoo fog lube and spray in all three injector holes whilst cranking engine for at least 5 seconds in each hole this is fogging without the kit, the lube will coat ur valves and pistons....... get the fogging kit it makes life a lot easier, i use 2 stroke pre- mix oil wen fogging as recommended to me!

the problem with these motors if u ride salt is the fine water mist that comes through ur air intake goes through ur supercharger through ur throttle body into ur intake manifold and into ur motor coating valves and pistons with salt water, very small amnt but it is in ther....from what i was told it is the exhaust valves that are prone to failure, and mine did fail at the rear piston revs causing major damage, cracked block and smashed up head wen the block cracked it flooded with coolent, my dealer misdiagnosed this as water intrusion, which is not coverd under warranty,

    good luck

    Destroyed engine

I own an '04 185hp LTD Supercharged that recently a piston smashed to bits destroying the engine.
Mechanic said no chance of repair due to extent of damage.
Only done 55hrs since purchased new and was never told by dealer of "fogging". Told only to flush after every ride and along with regular servicing it has been maintained in new condition. I read my manual front to back when first purchased ski and dont recall anything to do with "fogging" but will look again.
Have emailed Bombardier for assistance and waiting for reply.
I have been quoted $22,000 for new motor. Is this true?

    Fogging note in manual.

Just checked. Operators guide 2004 page 100 in the TRAILERING, STORAGE AND PRE SEASON PREPERATION section reads as follows.
NOTE: It is recommended to fog the engine valves with BOMBARDIER LUBE lubricant. Contact your authorized Sea-Doo dealer.
My dealer never mentioned a thing, nor have any of the mechanics who serviced it.

Thanks for all your help guys, I really appreciate it.
I'm in a predicament due to the fact that my insurance won't cover it either.
