    It's not foggy!

    Hey All,
Long story short is I last used ski in last week of April, family and work issues have meant I have hardly been home since then and I have NOT fogged my ski and only started it once in that period, am I really risking damage to the valves if I do not replace them as a precaution? I always flush and clean my ski when I was using it and yeah just worried about having not fogged it I don't want to blow it up, advice, ideas?

    1. 3cylinder engine 1500cc rotax
    2. oil in engine
    3. closed loop cooling system
    4. why bother to fog its not a 2 stroker.
    5. if the oil is changed at service intervals you wont have problems.
only external corrosion will be you problem.

    you should be worried

hey you have good reason to worry, dont listen to old age mark, he is misinformed, i had motor blow up due to corrosion of exhaust valves, needed whole new motor as result of running ski after several months without fogging, if u ride salt water take ur ski to dealer and have him inspect ur valves especially the exhaust side on no.3 cylinder(most rear) as this is wher the salt comes first the engine is closed loop cooling but the exhaust is not and salt works its way in from ther, talk to gold coast seadoo they gave me lots of info on it, ur dealer should have advised u that fogging is essential if u ride salt water i now have les cooke fogging kit this is a must have and i use it after every ride, so unless u are gonna start ur ski on a weekly basis or pull ur injectors out after every ride and spray fogging lube, then u need the fogging kit, this is all well documented on the net, if u ignore and ride it wont happen immediately but severe damage may occur costing u up to $10,000 i was lucky and had it covered under warranty but i had to fight hard for that, spend the few hundred have ur valves inspected and cleaned or replaced if needed, if ur dealer does not agree find a new dealer, this issue nearly cost me a small fortune, good luck

Ski is in for service now and valves replaced along with fitting of valve retainers and new gaskets... I gave the go ahead just to do the valves anyway and turns out the exhaust valves were pitted and had carbon deposits so just a matter of time before one potentially let go, wonder how it'll ride now (engine wise)... and when replacing valves do you need to "run in" the motor again?
