    1st Timer - Require advice

    Hi there

I am interested in buying a used jetski and don't know where to start. I'm a first timer so absolutely no idea or clue on make/model/engine size....the list goes on.

I have between 10k - 15k to spend, realisticly I would like to spend maybe 13k. I am not competative and would like something for the family.

Not sure how the 3 seater vs 2 seaters handle etc, if someone can give me some advice there that would be great also.

What type of licence do I need? Where do i sit it?

Just need someone to point me in the right direction.

    Cheers.

    Hi Tee,
You are not the first to ask this question. For the $ figure you have mentioned you will pick up a great ski. As it is for the family go with a 3 seater as it will so much more stable and if you plan on towing tubes ect a lot better as you can fit a driver, observer & the person on the tube - state laws (depending upon the state) say that you must have a seat for the driver, the observer & the person been towed - what state are you in - this helps us on advising dealers & state laws ect.

If you are not after raw power have a look at the following non supercharged skis. My advice is go with only 4 stroke skis, not 2 stroke.

    Seadoo: GTX 155, Wake 155, GTI 155
Honda: F12, F15X - both turbo & super reliable & awesome on fuel
    Yamaha: FX140 or 160
    Kawasaki: STX 15F, ULTRA LX.

All these skis are around 150 - 180 HP approx.

Also consider what dealer you have close buy to look after the ski.

Other people on the forum could advise on the different models.

As for licence, we need to know where you are as it varies state to state. When you say "Where do i sit it?" I am unsure what you are referring to?

Great places to look for skis are - this forum, local dealer, boatpoint, trading post or you local paper. Get any second hand checked by a qualified PWC Tech for piece of mind & to ensure you are not buying a lemon.

Great advice Cookie, thanks very much for that.
I was referring to where do I sit the test to get my licence? I am in VIC.
Is there an open jet ski community where groups meet up with families at a designated spot every so often?
