What about the crash type helmets that the AFL/NRL players year?

Best helmets for surf are Down hill full face mountain bike helmets.
    (approx $100 - $200)

Light weight and drains water very easy. Not heavy like a Moto x version.

They will protect the all important ivory in ya mouth that the Gath fails to do..

Mate when the helmet got sucked off my head i was almost 2 metres under water with the throttle still on full noise i never took my finger off so when the ski started to nose up the force off the water pushed me back so if you could imagine me holding onto the handle bars for grim life (as we were right on the reef of the main island at lancelin) the force pulled my head back to the point my head was at 90 degrees back hence the chin strapped and helmet just simply sucked off my head as nothing was there to hold it on. Hurt like buggery over the next week. taught me a lesson about casually strolling through 2metre set of waves and not fulling contcentrating!!!!!!

So it wouldn't of matttered what brand it is just very unusual circumstances that happened.

We dont usually become fully submerged when on a 320+ kg ski. I doubt whether it will happen again that way.

Funny story now tho but not at the time!!!
    Cheers

Mooka's right if you are only wave jumping get the full down hill mountain bike helmet with chin guard. Half the weight of an mx helmet.

For racing only snell/dot approved for road use mx style helmets are allowed..

Crispy, trust us mate, there have been a good few of us who have had nasty injuries. At the end of the day, it is your call though. There is a difference between being brave and being silly. I would not be any less impressed if you jumped a 10 foot wave with a helmet than without, I would still think that you had balls!
