    01 gpr800 starting problem

    hi all im new to jet skis but cluey with anything with a motor, so i bought a 01 yamaha gpr800

    it started fine 2 weeks ago now doesnt want to start, it cranks but doesnt want to start.
    i thought it might be the spark plugs so i changed them put new ones in but the same thing

    what do yous think?

    Are the plugs getting wet with fuel ?

    yep, i got the ski on the trailler tilted nose up would that be effecting it? shouldnt be

    Sounds like it could be coil(s). It's actually one coil unit, not two separate ones.
    That's the first I would look at.
    The coil will short internally if not grounded while turning the engine over.
    Usually it's the spark near the front of the ski that fails first.
    HOWEVER.... the other culprit could be the CDI unit if both plugs do not spark.

    So, moving on, have a look at the plugs to see if there is a spark on them.
    Take 2 known good ones, place them on the block with leads connected, and turn the engine over.

    BTW. Be careful not to use a booster unless you are sure(110%) that all the battery terminals are good connections, or you will fry the CDI.
    Post results, and we take it from there.

    Of course, check compression if you can. Read anywhere 110-128 psi.

    The 800 has a problem with the rings slipping around the pistons, and jamming in the ports, trashing the cylinders etc.
    The ring constantly pushes against the ring-stop, and one day, without warning, rides over it, and then it's rebuild time for the top-end.
