    stabilty on a yamaha

    i have a 1998 yamaha gp1200 and was wondering if there is anything i can do to make it more stable?

    Umm, without adding large weight to the bottom of the hull, or increasing the displacement, not much can be done for low speed/stationary stability.
    After market sponsons, and ride plate will modify ride handling, and cornering.

    GPs are meant to be a little 'unstable', just like an XP 'Doo. Makes then turn fast and good wavejumpers.
    The main thing wrong with them is the porpoising that's very hard to fix. It can be 'helped' with a longer rideplate, intake grill etc or just wear it like I did on mine back in the 90s. I did put a WORX grill into it though that made it hook up much better.
    They are without doubt a fantastic fun ski.
    Be sure to do the check valves on your carbs though, otherwise they run lean and blow the engine.
