    Question Impeller Replacement

Just wondering how easy, or difficult, it is to change out the impeller on an XLT 1200.
Any special tools required that only come from Yamaha etc?

I can get a Solas impeller for about half the price from the states.

    Any tips most welcome,

    cheers,

    Gus.

Try a Skat-Trak prop as the Solas are more for top end and the skat is more bottom to mid range . Will make a difference with some jetting to the cabs plus filters.

    Hi

You will need a shaft holder to change the impeller . The shaft sits in the holder which need a vice to lock it in , then the impeller scews off clockwise as it has reverse thread. You need to strip the rear end of the ski to do that pull out the pump and the impeller and shaft will come out. I just did mine today xlt1200.

    Hi Chris,

How long did the whole process take? Any other pitfalls to watch out for?
What prop did you go for? And have you tested it out yet and noticed the improvement?

Have you done any other mods to the ski?
So far I have only added an R & D grate, stuffer kit, and Waveater powervalve kit.
Where abouts are you? Add a location to your profile.

    Cheers,

    Gus.

The job is not hard can be done in one day if u have the tools any an rough idea in mechanic. The only issue I got now is that the standard ride plate won't come off the nuts are stuff , The ski is not at work shop they will take plate off and put aluminium bracket. I am now looking at exhaust option any ideas ?

    Guski, Chris and Thommo.

Where you guys getting your parts from.

I have got an 05 model and want to start moding it, wheres the cheapest place to get ride plates, intake grates, seal kits. Fitting is not a problem and getting out of the states is not a problem either if the price is right.

Sounds like we need to organise an XLT1200 ride, seems like everyone has XPL's

    Beetle,

I got my intake grate (R & D ) and pump seal fitted at the last service. $235 & $115. That was from Jetpower.
I got the Waveater PV kit direct from Waveater online, $105 US and fitted myself. Easy enough.

Haven't planned any more mods yet, not got into the racing side yet.
Though, impeller would the next thing. 13/19 i think is the deal for our ski for better holeshot.

    Cheers,

    Gus.
